RAWALPINDI:

After failing to achieve the revenue target, the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) has awarded contracts for parking lots, public washrooms and the wagon stand within the Pirwadhai general bus stand through an open auction.

Public representatives in their last meeting approved the auction of the said contracts for the remaining period. During the suspension period of the local representatives, the RMC management had deployed its clerical staff for recoveries.

The RMC is expected to earn around 36.98 million in revenue against the target of 50 million. The RMC management attempted to auction the Pirwadhai general bus stand for 18.351 million fourth times, however, the contract could not be awarded.

The contract of the Pirwadhai general bus stand for the remaining period was awarded to Sheikh Zaheer-ud-Din for Rs9.5 million, which was approved by the public representatives in their last meeting.

The contract of the four units of municipal washrooms could not be awarded for Rs2.22 million and the RMC staff could only recovery Rs0.721830 million.

The contract of the public washrooms was awarded to Malik Ghulam Mustafa for 1.24 million. Similarly, four attempts were made to auction the contracts of car parking areas at the sites of College Road, Liaquat Road and in front of the former office of the corporation for Rs7.44 million.

The RMC staff could only recover 1.893 million. The contract for the remaining period was awarded to Malik Ghulam Mustafa for Rs5.52 million.

After four unsuccessful attempts to auction car parking lots for Rs3.0982 million in Commercial Market and Sixth Road, the departmental recovery remained at Rs1.22065 million. The RMC awarded the contract for the remaining period to Haider Iftikhar for 2.66 million.

The contract of the wagon stand at the Pirwadhai general bus stand was offered for Rs5.86 million but nobody offered the bid. The RMC staff had so far been able to recover only Rs2.6565 million.

The public representatives approved the auction of the wagon stands for the remaining period to Haider Iftikahr for Rs3 million. On the other hand, the RMC will stand dissolved on December 30. Public representatives had approved Rs2.31 billion for development schemes. However, the provincial government approved Rs440 million for the public representatives for the period they remained in office. Rawalpindi Mayor Sardar Naseem Khan has decided to approach the high court against this cut in development funds.
