ATC extends remand of suspected kidnappers

The eight accused are believed to be involved in other serious crimes as well

KARACHI:

A special anti-terrorism court has extended the physical remand of suspects allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crimes till December 23.

The Karachi-based ATC held a hearing of kidnapping for ransom and other serious incidents. Police produced eight arrested suspects in court on the completion of their remand.

The investigation officer said that the CRO of the suspects has been completed. Further investigation is to be carried out in respect to their fugitive accomplices. The IO requested the court for extension of the physical remand of the suspects.

The court extended the physical remand of the suspects till December 23. The court ordered the suspects to be produced on the given date..

According to police, the suspects include employees of five government departments. The suspects include Adnan Akhtar, Hassan Adnan, Zeeshan Qadir, Muhammad Maqsood, Muhammad Emad, Zohaib Asad, Syed Haris and Umair Mustafa.

The suspects allegedly kidnapped a young man named Hamza and demanded a ransom of Rs.20 million. The suspects are believed to have released the abducted person after receiving Rs.3.5 million.

Six vehicles and two motorcycles were also recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects.

The group of suspects reportedly also includes people from other government departments, including police. The suspects are said to be involved in other crimes, including sale and purchase of non-customs paid vehicles.
