The trailer for the upcoming 'Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts' is here and we are spellbound.

Entertainment Desk December 21, 2021

It’s been 20 years since Warner Bros’ blockbuster Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone released and to mark its anniversary, HBO Max is set to stream a reunion special, the trailer of which came out on Monday.

Spelling magic, the 2-minute clip, which has rendered us dribbling in nostalgia, sees the cast members and the makers, with the exception of JK Rowling, coming together. Apparently, the special is set to shine the light on everyone that became famous because of the franchise, except for the person who fashioned the wizarding world, courtesy of her transphobic social media posts that she refuses to apologise for.

But keeping that aside, here is everything we can tell you about the one-off – that will air on New Year’s – judging from its trailer.

Platform 9¾

The trailer kicks off by taking us back to the train station that bridges the muggle and wizarding world as the lens captures an emotional and now grown-up Emma Watson, alias, Hermione Granger. “Take your most powerful memory and make it the happiest you can remember,” Daniel Radcliffe is heard narrating.

Time-Turner

Cast members can be seen greeting each other like “so much time has passed,” and chatting as though, “no time has passed,” just as Watson points out. We can solemnly swear majority of them will be up to no good as they’ll travel back in time to talk about their characters.

A Yule Ball?

We’re not sure whether there’s going to be a Yule Ball in the special but the trailer sees dancing at Hogwarts and we have our fingers crossed. In case you’re worried for Grint, rest assured that this time, he’ll be putting his best foot forward, just as Professor McGonagall had instructed all those years ago.

Voldemort’s return

Sorry to break it to you but Harry Potter villains are also reuniting and Ralph Fiennes, who first appeared in 2005 sequel Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Lord Voldemort, can be seen explaining why he accepted the role. “My sister has children who were around 11 and 12 then and I said, ‘Martha, I don’t know about this Voldemort.’ Her response? ‘What? You’re being asked to play Voldemort? You’ve got to do it!’” Fiennes recalls.

More reminiscing

But the special will primarily see a lot of actors reminiscing their most cherished memories, including the likes of Helena Bonham Carter and Gary Oldman. Just as Grint foregrounds it for us by telling Watson and Radcliffe: “It’s a strong bond we’ll always have – we’re family and we’ll always be a part of each other’s life.”
