Mehmoodabad Nullah reconstructed

FWO completes project in record nine months

Under the Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP), the work of restoring Mehmoodabad Nullah in its original form has been completed.

A ceremony was held on Saturday for the reconstruction of Mehmoodabad Nullah in which Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi, Provincial Minister for Information and Labour Saeed Ghani, Chairman NDMA Major General Akhtar Nawaz, FWO's Azfar Kamal and others participated.

The event was also attended by a large number of PTI members of the Sindh Assembly, business community, and city elders. The FWO has completed the reconstruction of Mehmoodabad Nullah in nine months. With the rehabilitation of Mehmoodabad Nallah, the surrounding communities have become safer.

It will be possible to save people from the flood situation covering an area of 19 km of the drain. Street lights have been installed on both sides of the nullah. The width of the drain has been increased to a maximum of 80 feet and the depth to eight meters.

The FWO has removed the 20 to 25-year old garbage from the nullah. More than 900,000 tonnes of waste have been removed.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said that the situation of Covid-19 came to the fore when the work on Karachi Transformation Plan started.
