Buzdar gives nod to new emergency helpline

Reviews proposal for setting up Water Commission, Water Regularity Authority

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar presided over a high-level meeting at the CM's Office on Friday to review the recommendations regarding setting up an emergency helpline.

The chief minister gave in-principle approval for the test run to monitor the significance of this helpline.

Buzdar said the purpose of setting up this helpline is to minimise the response time in any untoward situation.

He termed the initiative of establishing a single emergency helpline for the whole country is a valuable idea. The quick response of the agency concerned during any emergency has great importance and timely response helps in overcoming the situation.

The National Telecom Company briefed the meeting about the Emergency Help Line Number 911.

Spokesman for Punjab Government Hasaan Khawar, IGP, home chief secretary and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

Earlier, the irrigation secretary gave a briefing to the CM regarding the setting up of the Water Commission and Water Regularity Authority. The chief minister said regulating the usage of water in Punjab is of great importance.

Securing the water reservoirs for our next generations is the prime need of time. Water must be saved through water management. The meeting reviewed the salient features and functions of the Water Commission and Water Regulatory Authority.
