‘Specialised camping pods’ set up in Patriata

European-style camps to protect lodgers from inclement weather, wild predators

The Punjab Tourism Department has established specialised camping pods for tourists as well as school and college students in Patriata, a popular tourist spot located at a distance of about 15-kilomete from Murree.

These camping pods are a state-of-the-art creation, with each port housing a washroom, lounge and balcony, while the furniture in the pods included a mattress and a wooden dining table with accompanying chairs.

Structure-wise, the camping pods are compact, comfortable and beautifully made, with strategically installed windows that show off scenic views of the mountains. Compared to conventional tents, the pods provide complete protection from rain and snow as well as the wildlife prowling the hills.

When full, these half-a-dozen camps present a picture and atmosphere comparable to that of a small village.

While paying a visit to the pods, Murree Assistant Commissioner (AC) Umar Maqbool said that the camps have been built to promote tourism and offer a more affordable alternative than hotels and guest houses.

Maqbool claimed that the design of the pods have been inspired by similar structures in Europe.

He further said that the uniqueness of the pods will attract campers in increasing numbers, and that constructive feedback about improvements will be taken into serious consideration.

Patriata Tourism Manager and Tourism Department senior officer Aijaz Butt shared that every year, many families and students camp in Patriata. However, frequent rains in the area make the experience an uncomfortable one for those whose tents fail to keep out the dripping rain drops.

The official said that keeping in mind the difficulties faced by campers, the pods have been designed as weather-proof structures that will not only guarantee a comfortable stay for the lodgers, but will also safeguard them from potential attacks of wild animals.

Butt further said that the pods have been officially declared open for the winter season and students are already expressing great interest in availing the lodging facility.
