LAHORE:

Federal Ombudsperson Syed Tahir Shahbaz on Friday urged the academies working under the criminal justice system, schools and religious forums to play their role in raising awareness on cybercrimes against children.

He was addressing the first provincial consultative meeting on prevention and control of cybercrimes against children, which was held at regional office Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat.

The ombudsman said the institution had developed a roadmap for strengthening the law and mechanism for their effective enforcement and raising awareness among the masses.

He added that the government passed a bill in this regard and now it was the responsibility of the law enforcement department to take necessary measures for implementing the law in letter and spirit.

Provincial Ombudsman Azam Suleman Khan said that constant parents-teachers meetings could play a vital role in resolving the issues related to children.

Senior Adviser and National Commissioner for Children Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi briefed the meeting that in a new proposed amendment, the police would have jurisdiction to take cognizance of offences of cybercrimes against children and would refer the matter to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation.
