RAWALPINDI:

The District Council Rawalpindi has decided to lease Chattar Park, a major amusement park near Bhara Kahu, for 15 years.

According to the District Council Chief Officer, a tender for the contract was issued on Saturday and the auction will take place on December 2.

Chattar Park, its two adjoining government cottages, restaurants, nurseries, and different fruit trees in the park will be included in the lease. Extensive parking areas have also been added as part of the agreement. However, the park will not include recreational facilities such as swings, tuck shops, stalls selling street food like chana chaat, barbecue grills and horse riding.

The park, which is blessed with a natural stream of clear water fed by the snow in the mountains, is owned by the Government of Punjab, and is located in the foothills of Islamabad and Murree - a raw and beautiful landscape. Families from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad also come here to bathe in the stream during the summer.

The government has approved handing over both the management and security system of the park to the private sector.

Chattar Park will be leased for a minimum of Rs7.2 million per annum, which will the opening bid at the auction. The park will be given to the highest bidder, who will agree to a yearly 10% increment in the annual payment of the lease.

All interested parties have been instructed to submit applications and bids by adhering to the rules for participation. Overall, the park is spread over a large area, and approximately 30% of it is mountainous.
