The union council (UC) chairpersons have demanded that the provincial administration place the anti-dengue squads at their disposal so that the deadly mosquito-borne disease may be reined in.
The local body representatives made the demand on Saturday during the second session of the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) after its restoration. The session was chaired by Lord Mayor Col (retd) Mubashir Javed.
UC-92 Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq presented a resolution demanding that the government make the anti-dengue squads answerable to the chairpersons of the union councils so that they could ensure proper spray in their areas to eliminate dengue mosquitos.
UC-182 Chairman Rashid Karamat demanded steps to control dengue and smog on an emergency basis. Other UC chairpersons also complained about poor conditions of sanitation in their areas and termed it one of the major causes of dengue’s spread.
After the session started with the recitation from the Holy Quran and Naat, resolutions in this regard were presented by the metropolitan corporation members. The resolutions were approved unanimously.
The mayor told the participants that bank accounts of the heads of the UCs had been activated.
He urged the UC chairpersons to play an active role in controlling smog, ensuring cleanliness and fighting dengue in their areas. The local governments will take concrete steps to solve public problems, he added.
UC-69 Chairman Mirza Shams Baig condemned the registration of an FIR against Chairman Karamat Butt by a price control magistrate. He demanded withdrawal of the FIR and legal action against the magistrate.
UC-81 Chairman Ameer Muhammad Gujjar presented a resolution demanding upgrading of the post of assistant sports officer from grade 12 to 16. UC-202 Chairman Rashid Khan demanded improvement of cleanliness in his locality and an end to construction of high-rise buildings.
District member Riaz Akhtar presented a resolution demanded correction of Kalma Shahadat printed in an Islamiat textbook for class 3. The resolution was approved unanimously.
