The Punjab local government ministry has restored the bank accounts of eight local government bodies consisting of 200 union councils (UCs) in the Rawalpindi district.
The government has approved funds worth Rs60 million for this purpose and each UC will be given Rs0.3 million for meeting daily expenditures. The number of UCs in Rawalpindi after the restoration of the old municipal corporation has reduced from 70 to 46.
Some 24 UCs have been attached with the district council after Rawalpindi retained the status of the metropolitan municipal corporation.
All UCs will be credited with funds this week while the UC chairman and secretary have been made signing authorities of expenditures.
