The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to FIA on a petition, seeking scrutiny of the bank accounts and property of senior police officials in connection with action against gutka mafia.
A single bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar heard the petition filed by advocate Muzammil Mumtaz Mayo against gutka mafia.
Petitioner Muzammil Mumtaz Mayo contended that senior police officers and their subordinates were involved in illegal trade of gutka and drugs. "Police SHOs and DSPs are reluctant to take action against the mafia," the counsel argued, adding that the SSP Matiari had taken Rs1.5 million in bribes from Asif Bhugio's drugs mafia. "The SSP took money for not taking any action against the mafia in Matiari and his video has also been aired on a private channel which is a proof of police involvement," the counsel maintained.
Meanwhile, DIG Special Branch appeared on the order of the court and said that IG Sindh had initiated action against police personnel involved in illegal activities. "Police parties would carry out operation in other areas as well and departmental action would be taken against the officers if found involved," he said.

Missing persons
An SHC bench has directed the New Town police and others to take necessary steps for recovery of missing persons.A bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, hearing petitions for recovery of missing persons, expressed indignation over the police officials. Justice Phulpoto remarked, "Where are the missing persons? Where have you searched them so far? Why the case of disappearance of missing Zafar Hassan has not been registered yet?"The police officials told the court that the family of the missing citizen did not approach the police. The court ordered registration of the case and sought a report at the next hearing. The court also sought reports on disappearance of Syed Zulfiqar and others.
