PESHAWAR:

Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar has announced the first year and class 9 results. As per the policy all students who appeared in the exams have been declared pass while only those students were declared fail who were absent from the exam.

Around 144,337 students have been declared pass. According to the official statistics, there were around 86,711 students in class nine in total in which 82,468 have been declared pass as 4,243 were absent and therefore declared fail. The percentage of success at class nine is 95.1 per cent. By the same token, in the first year intermediate there were a total of 55,840 students in which 1,786 didn’t appear in exams so they were declared fail. The percentage of success was 96.9 per cent.

Talking to The Express Tribune an official of the board said that all the results will be available for checking on the official website of the board and would be sent on the mobile phone number of students and parents.

It is worth mentioning here that previously the results of intermediate and matric were heavily criticized by the general public and some government officials alike as some of the students secured 1100 out of 1100 marks, making a record for securing 100 per cent marks. This forced the provincial government to notify a fact finding committee which was tasked with rechecking the papers of those students who secured more than 95 per cent marks.

Education Minister Shahram Tarakai, however, later denied that the papers are being rechecked. He claimed that the committee had been formed to evaluate the methods of paper checking and exams.

He also announced that a centralized Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education will be established in the province which will have its branches in all the districts. Currently there are eight boards in the K-P province established by the MMA government.
