Rehabilitation of Orangi, Gujjar nullah affectees planned: CM Murad

Housing scheme will be ready in two years at a cost of Rs10 billion, adds provincial chief executive

KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that a programme has been formulated for the rehabilitation of Orangi and Gujjar Nullah victims.

In an informal conversation with the media at the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry, Shah said that he had been summoned by the Supreme Court to present his position.

I have informed the court that I have a shortage of officers and funds. I will implement whatever the Supreme Court directs.

The land has been indicated that the housing scheme will be ready in two years at a cost of Rs10 billion. I have presented my position that the money of Bahria Town should be given to the Sindh government.

I hope the court will decide on this matter. But for now, the Sindh government will release this amount from its budget.

"We have been instructed to evacuate the illegally settled people. We have apologised from removing them at once. The court has been informed that if they are removed from one place today, they will settle down in another place.
