ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has directed authorities concerned to complete work on the 10th Avenue project within 21 months.

The minister issued these directives while chairing a meeting to review progress on water issues of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and the development of the 10th Avenue road project. The meeting was informed that the tender for the 10th Avenue project would be floated by mid-November 2021.

The meeting was informed that the alignment of 10th Avenue phase-I from IJP Road to Margalla Road contains two packages. The package-I will cover IJP Road to Srinagar Highway, which included eight bridges, underpasses, and flyovers. The package-II included Srinagar Highway interchange and further connection with G-9 and G-10 sectors.

Asad Umar issued directives for the simultaneous initiation of both packages and said that the 10th Avenue was a major initiative for the citizens of Islamabad, especially for the residents of I-9 and I-10 sectors who will have direct access to the IJ Principal Road and the Srinagar Highway.

The minister also reviewed progress on the rainwater harvesting project being implemented by the Capital Development Authority in collaboration with the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).

PCRWR Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf and a CDA official briefed the meeting that drilling work on 25 sites has begun. The meeting was told that by December 2021, 50 sites for grand water recharge wells would be developed and the CDA will develop over 100 recharge wells. Representatives of the housing authority told the meeting that they were working on 25 recharge wells for Sector G-13. Asad Umar directed them to work on the rest of the housing sector as well and come up with a plan to be finalised at the next meeting.
