Six armed robbers loot departmental store in Bahadurabad

Suspects came rolling down on bikes, held staff at gunpoint and rode off unchallenged

In a blatant display of rising power of criminal gangs in the city, over a dozen armed robbers riding on motorcycles barged in to a departmental store in the shopping hub of Bahdurabad took away cash and valuables and rode away unchallenged.

The biker gang took full advantage of the absence of police in the Bahadurabad shopping area while taking the staff hostage at gunpoint and looting millions of rupees worth of cash.

The Newtown police have registered a case and launched investigation.

According to reports from the area, all the personnel of Newtown police station were on security duty and the robbers took full advantage of their absence.

Police said the robbers looted Rs900,000 in cash. The police registered a case of robbery and handed over to investigation authorities.

"Attempts are being made to get more information about the robbers involved in the incident from the footage of close circuit television cameras," said the duty officer of the Newtown Police Station.
