The government is taking steps to improve the agriculture sector on modern lines including digitalisation of land records, said Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Food Security Jamshed Iqbal Cheema. Talking to a news channel on Saturday, he said that the government was focusing on welfare of farmers which would improve their net income and yield positive results for overall traditional crop productions. According to him, there was immense potential to boost agriculture, livestock, dairy farming, fisheries and other allied sectors in the country. “There is a need to work on high value crops,” he said. “The government is taking practical measures under a strong strategy to develop the agriculture sector on modern lines.” Cheema said that improved farm techniques and better agriculture practices were being promoted whereas land and water management issues were being addressed on priority. Under a comprehensive action plan for addressing food security issues, the federal and provincial government would collaborate to utilise all available resources to modernise agricultural production and improve accessibility of the people to the food, he added. Replying a question, he said oil prices in Pakistan were cheaper than the rest of the region and the world.
