An ASI of traffic police was gunned down on the outskirts of Peshawar and an additional SHO committed suicide inside Kalu Khan Police Station in Swabi district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Wednesday.
Police told The Express Tribune that ASI Numan was on his way to office in the afternoon when unidentified people opened fire at him in the jurisdiction of Urmar Police Station on the outskirts of Peshawar, killing him on the spot. The attackers managed to escape unchallenged after committing the crime.
Police said that it was premature to declare it a terrorist attack and they were investigating the matter.
“Police reached the scene and conducted a search and strike operation in the area but the attackers managed to escape,” said a police official, adding that the body had been sent for autopsy.
“There are family feuds in the area and it is premature to jump to any conclusion. The attack could be a targeted one and a result of family feud too,” he said, adding that an investigation team had been formed and they were looking into the case from all angles.
In another tragic incident, the additional SHO Fazal Amin Khan of Kalu Khan Police Station, Swbi district, committed suicide at his office on Wednesday morning. Police said that he was suffering from mental disorders but an investigation team had been formed to look into the matter.
“The body has been sent for autopsy and police has opened investigation into the case too,” said a police official.
