RAWALPINDI:

All nine education boards in Punjab have held back matriculation and intermediate results after the Punjab government has failed to approve a summary regarding the promotion of students, who may be failed in one or more subjects.

The results of annual matriculation and intermediate examinations have been compiled by all nine education boards in Punjab, but they have not been announced yet.

The results of the intermediate examination were to be announced on September 30 and matriculation on October 16, but they could not be announced as the provincial cabinet has not yet approved a summary for granting flat 33 marks to failing students.

The federal education board had implemented the ‘all students pass’ policy amid the Covid-19 situation and announced the results, after which the admission process in various colleges and universities has also kicked off.

However, more than 1.4 million students registered with education boards of Punjab are still waiting for results.

Sources said that the provincial education ministry has been apprised by the committee of board chairmen that it was not possible to announce the results until the cabinet approves the policy and issues a formal notification.

Sources in the education ministry confirmed that a related summary has been sent to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The sources said that the summary will be approved in the upcoming cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Education Board spokesperson Arsalan Ali Cheema told The Express Tribune that the intermediate results were ready to be announced.

He said that the board will announce the results within 48 hours of the issuance of the notification regarding the one-time promotion policy of students.

Meanwhile, students including Farhan Syed, Shakir Satti and Asghar Bhatti said that the federal board has already announced the results and their students have also started getting admissions to different colleges and universities.

They said that the delay was affecting their academic future as several colleges and universities have opened admissions. They urged Punjab chief minister to immediately convene a cabinet meeting to approve the summary regarding the promotion policy.
