RAWALPINDI:

Poultry Research Institute Rawalpindi Director Dr Syed Kamal Nasir said on Friday that eggs were essential for people of all ages in all seasons.

“There is a dire need to create awareness among the public about the nutrition value of eggs as they help fight malnutrition,” he said while speaking at an event marking World Egg Day.

Dr Nasir said children should especially take one egg daily because of their abundant benefits as, according to him, organic and farm variety eggs had similar nutritional value.

Dr Nasir said that the livestock department is striving to ensure the availability of eggs throughout the province.

He said that various awareness programmes are organised in coordination with international organisations to create awareness among the people about the sources of quality food and their use.

“Overall, the poultry sector is striving to ease malnutrition in the country. Pakistan is already on par with most of the developing countries in egg production. Public-private partnerships can not only make eggs and poultry available but also export them and earn a lot of foreign exchange,” he said.

The World Egg Day is marked around the world on the second Friday of October every year to educate the public about the nutritional value of eggs and the need and importance of their use.

The poultry sector is playing an important role in alleviating malnutrition in the country and Pakistan is on par with most of the developing countries in egg production. Public-private partnerships can not only make eggs and poultry available, but also export them and earn a lot of foreign exchange.

Other speakers talked about the misconception about the natural benefits of eggs and their inclusion in the daily diet and the use of eggs, saying that eggs can be used without fear and danger at any age and in any season.

A special symbolic walk was also arranged at the end of the event.
