ISLAMABAD:
A court on Monday extended the physical remand of some students and employees of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in test entry questionnaire stealing case.
Judge Usman Ali Awan of the District Court extended the physical remand of the suspects for four days. The court fixed August 19 for next hearing.
During the course of hearing, the police requested the court to extend the physical remand of the suspects for seven more days. The court, however, gave only four days remand to the police.
Sources close to the investigation told The Express Tribune that the students had given Rs50,000 to the officials of the university to leak the papers.
The students wanted to sell the test papers for a profit. Other suspects in the case are still at large and the police have been conducting raids at different areas of the twin cities to arrest them.
The sources further said that the departmental inquiry of the university had also found them guilty and confirmed their involvement in stealing the questionnaires.
On the other hand, the university administration had extended the date of entry test till August 24 and new questionnaires were being prepared for the purpose.
On August 4, the Sabzi Mandi police arrested Muhammad Riaz, Ibad Ali, Amin Nawaz and Waqar and registered a theft case against them under section 409 on the complaint of the university Registrar Saleem Daud.
The other accused, including Altaf Hussain, Ahmed Saeed, Amin Saqib, Raja Faisal, Omer Farooq and Ahsan Nawaz have gone into hiding after the incident.
Earlier, on August 11 the court granted them five days physical remand.
