ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved the appeals filed by Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, requesting deferment of a review petition against the court's decision regarding the Avenfield reference on Saturday.

Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, in a written order for appeals heard on September 23, declared that Maryam had sought an adjournment of the review petition, maintaining that she had hired a new counsel who would need time to prepare for her case.

As per the written order of the court, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) lawyer opposed the request for adjournment by Maryam, stating that the case has been pending since April 2018 while the sentence was also suspended since 2019.

The verdict further quoted the NAB counsel as maintaining that the case is being delayed without any reason and no progress has been made for a long time. The NAB has filed a separate petition for a decision on the appeal in accordance with the law.

Moreover, a hearing on the miscellaneous petition filed by NAB for an early decision on Nawaz's appeal will be held on October 6.
