Despite tall claims of heightened security, a gang of burglars broke into a carpet showroom and two travel agencies situated near the Governor’s House in the red zone area of the city.
Sources said the gang having broken the padlocks of a carpet showroom and two travel agencies, located within the limits of Artillery Maidan Police Station, in the wee hours on Monday and easily took away cash and other valuables.
As soon as the incident was reported, the police rushed to the spot and the crime scene unit was called on the spot to gather evidence from the spot. Iftikhar Hussain, owner of the carpet showroom, said that the incident took place in his showroom when the watchman had gone to the mosque to offer morning prayers.
“The suspects broke the locks on the windows of the showroom and started searching for cash and other valuables after easily breaking into the showroom,” he said and added that the suspects searched the entire showroom and took with them whatever valuables they found, including cash.
The owner said that the lock-breaking gang broke the locks of his showroom as well as two travel agencies and looted stuff from there as well. “Although my showroom is equipped with the CCTV cameras my staff had turned off the cameras for the last three days due to rain,” he said, adding while there were no cameras in one travel agency, the cameras at the other travel agency turned out to be faulty.
