Miscreants destroy Quaid's statue in Gwadar

No loss of life reported in the incident

A statue of Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was destroyed on Sunday by miscreants in the port city of Gwadar.

The statue was erected earlier this year Marine drive, a major thoroughfare of the developing city and is considered a part of the safe zone.

Official sources said that the miscreants planted an explosive device under the statue and blew it up.

“The statue of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was blown up using explosive enteral,” Dr Farhan Zahid, an official, stated and added that the statue was completely destroyed by the blast.

He also said that the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) will investigate the incident. No human loss was reported in the incident, the official confirmed.

Security was beefed up in the port city following the incident, with additional security personnel deployed at various points.

A banned organisation has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

A week ago, the Counter-Terrorism Department foiled a terrorism plan hatched by the Balochistan Liberation Army during an intelligence-based operation on the outskirts of Quetta city.

According to a CTD spokesperson, a terrorist was arrested during the operation and a large amount of explosives was recovered from his possession.
