Labourer dies as brick-laden truck overturns

Two people injured in the accident are stated to be in a critical condition

RAWALPINDI:

A labourer died while two others were injured when a truck carrying bricks overturned near DHA-2 on GT Road.

Rescue 1122 officials said that a vehicle coming from behind overtook the truck.

The truck driver applied the vehicle’ brakes to avoid an accident but lost control of the vehicle after running into a fence and overturned.

A labourer, Ali, died on the spot while two others, Esa Khan and Musa Khan, were injured.

Rescue 1122 workers moved the injured to the hospital, where their condition is reported to be critical.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a man suffering from gunshot wounds who was riding away after snatching a motorcycle. His accomplice fled.

Pirwudhai police said the patrolling team signalled two men on a motorcycle to stop, however, they turned the motorcycle and tried to flee. The police gave chase and after covering some distance, the speeding motorcycle went out of control and fell.

The fleeing men opened fire at the police and ran inside the graveyard. The police chased them and fired at them. One of the bullets struck Hameed Khan, who was arrested while his accomplice escaped.
