RAWALPINDI:

The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crimes Wing has been further divided into 10 sections to curb the rise in cybercrimes and tighten the noose around the accused as citizens are facing severe difficulties.

Lack of staff in the FIA was increasing the burden on the agency. Ten more sections of cyber crime have been activated, which will lead to better results by dividing the investigation of complaints and cases.

A senior FIA official said on condition of anonymity that the Cyber Crime Cell has been receiving constant complaints about the rise in crimes related to the internet world.

“Criminals harass citizens with cybercrime,” he said. “The majority of cybercrime victims are young girls and minors.”

To better address the growing burden, the Cyber Crime Cell has been further divided into 10 sections including Cyber Financial Fraud, Hacking, Cyber Harassment, Cyber Billing, Cyber Stalking, Child Pornography, Data Theft, ID Theft, Intellectual Property Rights and Denial of Services Attack.

Different in-charges of each section will be appointed along with two investigation officers. Upon receipt of the application, the nature of the offense will be decided and according to the nature of the offense, the investigation will be handed over to the in-charge of the relevant section who will trace the case with the help of his investigation officers.

The official said the FIA is under intense pressure due to rising cybercrimes and staff shortages.

The only solution to make best use of the existing staff was to split the cybercrime cell. This will not only solve the growing burden of grievances in a better way but will also enable the victims to get quick and immediate justice and those involved in cybercrimes who will soon be arrested and punished according to the law, he added.
