Both the suspects are of Afghan origin

The Ittehad Town police on Friday claimed to have killed an alleged robber and arrested his accomplice after a shootout near Afridi Chowk.

Both the suspects are of Afghan origin, said a statement issued from the office of the Keamari district SSP Fida Hussain Janwari.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Lal Hashim, 20, with the help of Afghan citizenship card found from his pocket. His accomplice fled from the scene. However, he was arrested after a brief chase police said. He was identified as 25-year-old Basit Ibrahim.

According to the statement, police signalled the suspects riding a motorcycle to stop at the check post near Abu Hurairah Madrassa. The accused, instead of stopping, opened fire on the police and tried to flee, the police chased them. The accused once again opened fire on the police near Ittehad Town Afridi Chowk. Police retaliated, killing one of them and injured his accomplice in injured condition.

Police claimed that the dead and the wounded suspects, both Afghan nationals, have been involved in serious crimes including dozens of robberies in SITE area, Baldia and Ittehad Town, the police claimed. Body of alleged dacoit and his injured accomplice were shifted to Civil Hospital.
