I have four kids: Saif Ali Khan 'scared' of lavish weddings

Actor is now hoping to change the concept of extravagant weddings when it comes to his children

Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's lavish 2012 wedding made headlines for weeks. With the who's who of the Indian film industry in attendance, the nuptial, which boasted of multiple events, was one of the most publicised weddings of all time, covered by media outlets across India and around the world. However, we have now come to know that was never the plan.

When Kareena informed her parents about her decision to marry her Tashann co-star, she told veteran actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita that she wanted a hush-hush wedding, away from the media glare. But her parents were against it being a small affair, making the wedding the biggest obsession of Bollywood fans at the time.

Moreover, the couple spent millions on the festivities. But Saif is now hoping to change the concept of extravagant weddings when it comes to his children. Recalling his wedding with Kareena Kapoor in 2012, Saif said that they wanted an intimate affair as well.

Jab humne shaadi ki thi, humne bhi wohi decide kiya tha ki sirf ekdum close family ko bulayenge. Lekin Kapoor family jo hai, unme kum se kum 200 hai (When we were getting married, we also decided to invite only close family. But the Kapoor family has at least 200 people),” he quipped.

Saif then joked about being scared of extravagant weddings. “Mujhe bohot darr lagta hai expensive shaadis se (I am very scared of expensive weddings),” he said. “Mere 4 bachche hai, bohot darr lag raha hai (I have four children, I am scared).”

In a 2020 interview, the couple had discussed how the duo has always been chased for their lifestyle and how they decided to break the cycle by not adhering to basic paparazzi culture. “Over the years of courtship and being together, we realised that there was no value left for anything. People just want to know what we’re eating, which designer I’m wearing, who we’ve invited. Saif and I decided that we wanted to keep the purest part of our relationship sacred. We followed protocol by going out onto the terrace and waving at the media after officially registering the marriage, but they didn’t need to know more than that,” Kareena previously noted.
