Educational institutions in Punjab to reopen from Sept 16

Only 50% students allowed on any given day, says education minister

Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas announced on Tuesday that all public and private schools in the province will reopen on September 16 with a staggered approach.

"Only 50% students will be allowed in Schools on any given day," the provincial education minister said in a tweet. "Please follow COVID SOPs issued by the government. Welcome back," he added.

 

Earlier, Raas had announced that all public and private schools of the province would remain closed from September 6 to September 11 in view of the current Covid-19 situation.

The minister had posted on Twitter that any private school not implementing Covid-19 SOPs would be closed immediately.

Later, on September 10, Dr Raas announced extending the closure of all educational institutions in the province till September 15.

“All Public and Private Schools of Punjab to remain closed until Wednesday, September 15th, 2021,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle, urging residents to stay home and stay safe.

Punjab reported 1,264 Covid cases and 34 more deaths due to the virus during the past 24 hours.

According to provincial health secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, 13 deaths were reported from Lahore during the period.

He said that active cases in Punjab now total 26,079, adding that the tally of the positive cases in the province stood at 415,655.

The official further stated that the total number of deaths due to the virus is currently at the 12,257 mark.

The health secretary said that some 377,319 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

“As many as 18,245 tests were conducted in Punjab since Sunday, totalling 7,088,812 tests,” he added.
