Man murders wife; police challan rules out suicide

The police filed the challan in the Kanta Kumari murder case before the South judicial magistrate at the Karachi City Courts on Monday.

According to the charge sheet, Anand Oga married Kanta Kumari on February 4, 2020. Six to seven months into the marriage, Anand started verbally abusing his wife. The spats escalated into physical violence and the accused had previously tried to suffocate Kanta Kumari to death using a pillow.

On June 5, the Anand called the victim's brother and told him that his sister had died by suicide. After exhuming the grave of the deceased, an autopsy was carried out and it was found that she had been strangled to death. Therefore, murder provisions were included in the case. Anand has been arrested and is in jail on judicial remand.

Red warrant

Meanwhile, the South judicial magistrate issued on Monday an international red warrant to Interpol for the arrest of a suspect absconding in a case pertaining to bounced cheques worth Rs1 billion.

The accused, Shehzad Naseem, allegedly issued two checks of Rs1 billion to Siddique Sons, however, they bounced due to insufficient funds. Subsequently, Sidiqque Sons filed a case at the Artillery Maidan Police Station. Naseem escaped to Singapore to avoid legal action, according to the police.

The judicial magistrate issued a red warrant addressed to the Interpol authorities in Singapore identifying the name and address of the accused, explaining his criminal offence and requesting his arrest.

The court order would also be sent to the Pakistani High Commission in Singapore.

ATM con artist remanded

Meanwhile, the West judicial magistrate handed over a man arrested on charges of fraudulently robbing citizens, who came to withdraw money from automated teller machines (ATMs), to the police on physical remand.

The police produced the accused, Syed Aftab Ali Shah, before the court.

The investigation officer said that the accused along with his wife used to note down the PIN code on the pretext of providing help to the elderly and other citizens who came to withdraw money from ATMs.
