ATC acquits three in extortion case

Accused had earlier been alleged of extorting Rs.2.5 million in another case

KARACHI:

A special anti-terrorism court on Saturday acquitted three suspects in an extortion case due to lack of evidence. The Karachi-based ATC announced its verdict, acquitting Arman, Shariq and Kashif of extortion charges.

The court, in its verdict, ordered that the suspects may be immediately released if they were not required in any other case.

According to police, the suspects had demanded extortion of Rs.3.5 million from Muhammad Zahid and threatened him with dire consequences in case of failure to pay the extortion.

The accused had earlier been alleged of extorting Rs.2.5 million in another case which registered in the New Karachi Police Station in 2020 on a citizen’s complaint.
