K-P educational institutes closed until Sep 15

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to keep all education institutes closed till September 15 in the nine districts of province following a decision of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The decision has been taken after the positivity ratio of Covid-19 increased in the most sensitive districts of the province. Two separate notifications have been issued by the Elementery and Secondary Education Department and Higher Education Department. According to these notifications, schools and colleges in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Malakand, Swat, Haripur, Abbotabad, Mansehra and Dera Ismail Khan, will remain closed including public and private sector schools and colleges as well as universities.

“The decision to open education institutes will be taken by NCOC and implemented by the K-P government,” said an official while talking to The Express Tribune.

It is worth mentioning here that previously in eight districts of the K-P province education institutes had been closed down till September 11. Mardan district was not part of the previous order but now it has been included in it after the Covid-19 cases increased in the district.

On the other hand another 25 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in the province in the last 24 hours. This has increased the total number of deaths to 5,225 so far. Around 628 new cases have also been reported from the province.

Peshawar remains on top of the fatility chart with nine deaths followed by six deaths in Swat, Mardan five, Manshera two, Abbotabad one and Hangu one.

Health officials told The Express Tribune that around 12,239 new tests have been conducted in the province during this time and 521 people have also successfully recovered.

Peshawar remained on the top of the cases with 174 cases, Mardan with 64, Nowshera with 42, Chitral Lower with 35, Abbotabad with 35, DI Khan with 49, Haripur with 27, Manshera 26, Bannu 22, Swat 24, Swabi 32, Batagram 18, Kohat 18, Charsadda 10, Hangu 10, Dir Upper 10, Malakand 13, Kurram seven, Karak three, Buner two, South Waziristan two and Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Torghar and Bajaur one case each.

It is worth mentioning here that the inter-district transport remains suspended in these eight districts in order to check the spread of the virus in the province.
