NADRA starts contactless biometric verification

ISLAMABAD

Capitalising on technical advancements and as per the request of the SBP, Nadra has launched latest Contactless Biometric Verification Services for the banking and payments industry, making Pakistan one of the first countries in the world to implement the technology at the national level.

The service was launched during the visit of SBP Governor Dr Reza Baqir to Nadra Headquarters, said a statement issued here on Thursday.

The banks in Pakistan will make use of the digital app on smartphones capturing and verifying biometrics of the potential account holders from their homes.

Once the pilot is completed, this service will be extended to all banks/EMIs.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Baqir, said, "This new mobile-based verification service for banks and EMIs is in line with SBP's financial inclusion initiative while creating opportunity for rapid on-boarding using remote identification and e-KYC features".

Nadra Chairman Tariq Malik said, “This new technology makes contactless fingerprint acquisition and matching possible using a smart mobile phone, providing an alternative to conventional methods of conducting digital financial transactions that may require specialised equipment or visits to bank branches.”

Habibullah Rafay | 3 years ago | Reply Very funny. Banking industry had launched this service 2.5 years ago when it was disabled by NADRA. It is being portrayed as it is something that is introduced for first time in the world. Further NADRA has given their APIs for the fingerprints verification not the technology itself. Fingerprints acquisition technology using mobile camera is being offered by the identity solution providers. https propakistani.pk 2019 07 08 nadra-disables-biometric-verification-of-bank-customers-via-apps
