Bollywood calls out Indian media for sensationalising funerals on TV

Kriti Sanon, Anushka Sharma shared two cents on recent treatment of Shehnaaz Gill by paparazzi on Sidharth's death

Entertainment Desk September 06, 2021

After a video surfaced on social media which shows how Shehnaaz Gill, the rumored girlfriend of late actor Sidharth Shukla and her brother Shehbaaz are followed and pushed around as a crying Shehnaaz runs after Sidharth's hearse, many Bollywood stars have taken to social media and lamented on such behaviour from the paparazzi, terming it as "heartless.”

Shehnaaz was stormed by flashing cameras and shocking questions by the awaiting paparazzi. As she tried to get to the crematorium, she was pushed and shoved around by the journalists, starved to capture her inconsolable state. Several pictures and videos of the same are now viral on social media. Shukla's mother wasn't treated any better. Rita, like Shehnaaz, wasn't given a chance to grieve the passing of her son as she struggled to break free from the wild crowd.

Reacting to the video, Zareen said, "My heart goes out to Shehnaaz, the poor girl looks completely broken. And at such a sensitive time, the media should show a little empathy towards her rather than behaving like heartless robots.”

The actor added, “I saw videos where she's crying uncontrollably but the media is just pushing her and shoving cameras and mikes on her face for a byte for their benefit. The whole scenario is compelling and heartbreaking! When did humans turn so heartless?"

Indian diva, Kriti Sanon, also took to her social media and shared her thoughts on the same. The Mimi star was livid over the insensitive media coverage of the funeral. “Breaks my heart to see our media, photographers and even online portals being so insensitive. Shameful! This isn’t “News”, nor is it “Entertainment”! Draw some boundaries! Have a conscience! Said it before, Saying it again! Stop covering funerals!”

She further points out about cameras covering the moment where the deceased’s near ones are in grief and not given privacy at their most vulnerable moment. She said, “Stop hounding people who are dealing with personal loss by flashing your camera in their face at their most vulnerable time! And for what? A few posts? Online portals and channels are equally at fault. Take a stand, Don't post those pictures and videos. Stop faking sensitivity by just writing “Heartbreaking” in the captions of such inhuman insensitive posts.”

Popular comedian Zakir Khan had also shared his two cents on the matter. Sharing an emotional post on Instagram, Zakir's poem translated to, “They don’t think of you as a human being. Not because there aren’t any lines or boundaries. Your corpse is not a body without a soul, but an opportunity to click pictures. As many as they can click. It’s similar to how people try to steal crockery from houses burning in a riot. Because after that, what use will you be? At most, 10 pictures, five news pieces, three videos, two stories, one post. That’s it.”

His post was later shared by Anushka Sharma. The recent coverage of the funerals of Bollywood stars has made the netizens ponder over the treatment of their stars.

Sidharth and Shehnaaz, even though they never officially announced themselves as a couple, always remained very emotionally close to each other. Sidharth passed away on Sept 2 at the age of 40 after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. His mortal remains were taken to Cooper Hospital.
