SC orders audit of Old Railway Golf Club

Acting CJ orders ensuring transparency, honesty in every sector, ‘not just railways’

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court has ordered the auditor general of Pakistan to conduct the audit of the Old Railway Golf Club.

A three-judge bench, headed by acting Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, on Friday heard the case related to the golf club.

During the hearing, the court expressed frustration over the non-issuance of tender for Railway Golf Club Liner.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan said that tenders for club lease could not be issued for two and a half years. “How much more time does railways need to issue tenders?”

“The railways minister bypassed the railways secretary and appointed an adviser. After taking charge, the adviser started looting.

“The consultant began offering honorary membership of the club. Employees were fired and new ones were hired.”

Justice Ahsan said that where did the global capitalists go with briefcases.

The acting chief justice remarked that the old management system was ruined by political interference.

“Ensure transparency and honesty in every sector, not just railways.”

The court ordered the auditor general of Pakistan to conduct the audit of the Old Railway Golf Club.

The court also directed completing the audit of the club soon and adjourned further hearing of the case indefinitely.
