The Punjab government on Thursday appointed Muhammad Ali as the new deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi. According to a notification, Muhammad Ali replaced Amir Aqiq Khan who had been directed to report to the Services and General Administration Department Punjab.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has changed five deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi during the last three years of its tenure. Sources claimed that the frequency with which the deputy commissioners were being changed impacted the progress of various development projects.

Previously, Umar Jehangir, Saifullah Dogar and Muhammad Ali Randhawa were changed after an interval of brief stints. Anwarul Haq, the fourth deputy commissioner, was recently removed after his involvement in the Ring Road corruption scandal and his services were returned to the centre.
In April 2021, the provincial government appointed Amir Aqiq Khan but he was replaced by Muhammad Ali after five months in office.
