Youm-e-Ashur observed with due solemnity across country

Strict security measures were in place to ensure foolproof security along the procession routes

Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Moharram, was observed on Thursday across the country with due solemnity to pay homage to the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.

Muharram is the month of mourning for the seventh-century martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The mourning processions were taken out in all the cities and towns of the country.

Strict security measures and some road closures were also in place to avoid any untoward incident. Law enforcers, including police, Rangers, FC and others ensured foolproof security along the procession routes.

Mobile phone services were partially suspended as a security measure in different cities. Medical camps, Sabeels and stalls were also arranged to provide assistance to the participants.

Ulema and Zahireen highlighted the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and various aspects of Karbala tragedy during the processions.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were issued for the processions to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

The main procession in Karachi started from Nishtar Park and culminated at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar through the designated routes.

The processions were also taken out in Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur and other cities of Sindh

Ashura processions were also held in various cities of Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with heavy contingents of law enforcement personnel deployed along the routes.

In their separate messages on the occasion, President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan said the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions was a symbol of determination and perseverance that one should always side with the truth and never hesitate to sacrifice life for the cause.

President Alvi urged the nation to rise above hatred, malice and sectarianism in line with the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

"The nation should prepare for all kinds of sacrifices by becoming a metaphor of determination and stability for our religion, nation and country as this path leads to the success in the world and hereafter," the president said.

PM Imran urged the countrymen to pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) by supporting the truth and justice, besides thwarting every wicked tactic of the falsehood.

"Imam Hussain (RA) had become a symbol of force against falsehood and strength for all the movements fighting against tyranny in the times to come," the premier said.

Both leaders also asked the masses to ensure the implementation of Covid-19 SOPs for protection against the pandemic.

In his message on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashur, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhary said this day reminds us of the message of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his historic character.

"Youm-e-Ashur is the day of triumph of truth and righteousness," the information minister said. "The great sacrifice of Grandson of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wa Sallam Khatim un Nabiyeen exalted Islam."

The minister added the great sacrifice rendered by the companions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) for the sanctity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was a beacon of light for the whole world.

"Acting upon the teachings of Imam Hussain (RA), we should not refrain from any sacrifice for lofty goals, perseverance and truth," he added.
