LAHORE:

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) parliamentary leader said on Thursday that the people pinned hopes on the Punjab Assembly but addressing their sufferings did not appear to be a priority of the forum.

Speaking on a point of order, PPP parliamentary leader Syed Hassan Murtaza criticised both the government and opposition for not taking any concrete measures to deal with the skyrocketing prices of essential goods and acting as silent spectators amid the problems faced by the people. “We are expected to raise voice for the people but all this is not done in Punjab Assembly,” he said.

Some PTI lawmakers tried to interrupt him, but Murtaza continued speaking.

"Today some bills were put on the agenda of the assembly but no one talked about the prices of medicines, ghee, petrol and essential food items. All representatives including the PML-N are playing the role of silent spectators." He said the voters would deal with their representatives who remained silent over their problems.

Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said a debate would be held on such issues on Friday.

During the question and answer session, some PML-N lawmakers and the speaker asked whether the Ayoub Research Institute in Faisalabad was being handed over to private companies.
