A Bilal Colony police officer assaulted and berated senior Express Tribune reporter Ehtesham Mufti. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and demanded a detailed report from the Sindh IG.
Journalists' organisations have expressed outrage over the incident and strongly condemned the police brutality against a senior journalist. The Karachi police chief also took notice of the incident after which SSP Central reached Bilal Colony police station and suspended responsible ASI Dil Nawaz and appointed SP New Karachi as the inquiry officer.
Ehtesham Mufti, a senior reporter of the Express Tribune, had reached near his residence in a vehicle after performing his duties. That is when an ASI of the Bilal Colony police station stopped the vehicle on a motorcycle. Mufti introduced himself, but the policeman lost his temper and grabbed the journalist by the collar before abusing him.
Later, the police called a mobile unit and took Ehtesham Mufti and the driver to the police station where the ASI and others beat Mufti and the driver on the police station premises.
