Man, son shot dead over old enmity

Locals say bodies kept lying on roadside for hours while suspects fled

A man and his son were gunned down when they were returning from the Haripur court on Wednesday.

According to the locals, the bodies kept lying on the roadside for hours while the suspects fled. Later, the police reached the sit and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital.

Police said that the killings took place over an old enmity. A case has been registered against the accused and raids were being conducted for their arrest.

Mushtaq son of Muhammad Din, and Arsalan son of Mushtaq were the residents of Bandi Seeran, said the police, adding that they were on their way to court on a motorcycle when the suspects opened fire at them near link road in Bandi Seeran. As a result, both the man and his son died on the spot.

The eldest son of the deceased, Ehtesham, registered a case at Kot Najibullah police station stating that residents of their village, Tariq son of Abdul Rashid, and his younger brother Wasim had killed his father and brother.

The police said that Tariq’s younger son, Hasnain, was murdered in his house a few months ago. In this case, one son of the slain Mushtaq remained in jail and the case was still pending in the court.

The police handed over both bodies to heirs for burial after postmortem and legal obligations. Sources said that the prime suspect, Tariq, has been arrested.
