IHC orders to payment of compensation to missing person’s family

Amount equal to his monthly salary to be paid till his recovery

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Monday ordered the implementation of the court’s June 30 decision to compensate the family of the missing citizen Imran Khan equal to his monthly salary till his recovery.

The court directed the respondents to submit an implementation report on August 3.

Earlier on June 30, the court had ruled that the family should be paid the same amount as the salary he was drawing at the time of his disappearance. The petitioner was represented by his counsel advocate Col (retd) Inamur Rehman while the deputy attorney general appeared on behalf of the federation.

Deputy Attorney General Syed Tayyab Shah presented a July 16 letter written by the interior ministry to the mother to submit the salary slip of her son. Justice Minallah maintained that there was no need to write this letter after the court orders and that the compensation should be paid in light of the affidavit of the petitioner.

The judge stated that the state is responsible for protecting the lives and property of citizens. Rehman said that an affidavit was submitted by the mother Nasreen Begum, stating that her son's salary at the time of his disappearance on May 19, 2015, was AED3,000. The court adjourned the hearing till August 3.
