KARAK:

Seven children drowned in Shakar Darra, Kohat in a nullah in which four were rescued by local residents.

Talking to The Express Tribune a local resident said that all the seven children hail from one family and are cousins who were swimming in a nullah near their homes.

“They were playing and bathing in shallow water but then suddenly one of them moved towards the deep water and others followed him. As a result the strong current took all of them away,” he said, adding that when they cried for help, local people rushed to the site and rescued four of them but three children were killed whose bodies were found by the locals a little downstream.

The unfortunate incident just a day ahead of Eid caused widespread panic among the local residents.

“The dead bodies were identified as a boy Aizaz, his sister Ruqia and their cousin Saad,” he said, adding that all the children were of six to nine years age.

“All the three bodies were shifted to local hospital and later handed over to the families after an autopsy,” he said.

In a separate incident in Karak district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) two children were killed and three injured in a wall collapse incident after heavy downpour.

Police said that the two unfortunate children were coming back from school and apparently took shelter from the rain near a wall which suddenly collapsed, killing both the children. Three other children were injured who have been shifted to nearby hospital by local residents
