CDWP green-lights two projects
The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Tuesday cleared two development projects at a cost of Rs3.37 billion and recommended three schemes worth Rs402.305 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for further consideration.
The meeting, chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, discussed projects related to governance, physical planning and housing, transport and communication and education.
During the meeting, a project related to governance titled “Establishment of Public Financial Management Unit (PFMU) and Programme Support Unit (PSU) in Finance Department and Planning and Development (P&D) Board respectively under Punjab Resources Improvement and Digital Effectiveness (PRIDE) Programme” worth Rs86.78 million was recommended to Ecnec. The plan is aimed at increasing revenue and improving reliability of resource allocation and access to digital services for people and firms in the province.
The programme primarily addresses three challenges which include fiscal risk management, revenue mobilisation and expenditure management through enhanced use of information systems.
A project related to physical planning and housing namely “1.2 MGD ROD Plant (Chinese Grant)” worth Rs2.1 billion was approved by the CDWP.

Two projects related to transport and communication titled “Construction of Dir Motorway” worth Rs38.99 billion and “Peshawar-DI Khan Motorway (360 km)” worth Rs276.5 billion were referred to Ecnec for further consideration.
Both roads will considerably reduce traffic congestion and delays on the said routes and provide the fastest route for people moving in the region.
The “Establishment of Directorate General of Religious Education” project worth Rs1.25 billion was approved in the CDWP meeting.
The main objective of the scheme is to mainstream religious education by registering all Islamic seminaries with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Islamabad.
Moreover, they will also be facilitated by the government in introducing contemporary subjects of SSC/HSSC over the next five years. The CDWP also approved one position paper titled “Pandemic Response Effectiveness Project for Covid-19” worth Rs810.396 million.
