Cabinet to review TLP’s fate tomorrow

The panel heard arguments of the lawyer representing banned outfit and will now submit its recommendations

The report of a committee formed to hear the appeal of the banned outfit Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) will be presented before the federal cabinet on Tuesday (July13).

The cabinet session has been summoned by Prime Minister Imran.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed informed that a summary has been moved regarding the decision about Tehreek-i-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) which will be discussed in tomorrow's meeting of the federal cabinet.

The panel has heard the arguments of the lawyer representing TLP and will now submit its recommendations.

The government outlawed the TLP in April this year following its call of protests demanding of the government to downgrade its ties with France and to expel the French ambassador on the issue of the blasphemous material publication. Its workers clashed with police, took hostage 11 policemen, 580 policemen sustained injuries in the clashes and they destroyed at least 30 cars.

Sheikh Rashid said it was now confirmed that Indian’s intelligence agency RAW had orchestrated the Johar Town blast, adding that it had now been established that the mastermind behind the Lahore tragedy had links with the Indian agency. He lauded security agencies for exposing the elements involved in the incident.

The other items in the agenda include the approval of names for the positions of vice-president and governing body of Iqbal Academy Pakistan (IAP), maximum retail prices of drugs, the appointment of chief executive officer (CEO) of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), the appointment of managing director of National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) and extension of the tenure for three months and CEO of Pakistan Railway Freight Transportation Company.
