Dr Rashid gets tough on dengue reporting

Stresses need to enhance dengue surveillance in major cities

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said that disciplinary action must be initiated against officers not submitting dengue reports.

She stated this while chairing the Cabinet Committee meeting at Darbar Hall of Civil Secretariat on Friday.

Punjab Minister for Auqaf Saeedul Hassan Shah, Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Iram Bukhari, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Sarah Aslam, Auqaf secretary, Environment secretary, Agriculture secretary, Lahore Deputy Commissioner Mudassar Riaz, PHA DG and other officials concerned were also present.

The provincial health minister reviewed anti-dengue activities in the province. P&SHD Secretary and PITB chairperson as well as Auqaf secretary, Agriculture secretary and Environment secretary presented progress of their respective departments to the health minister. Dr Rashid said, “Increase in dengue cases may prove dangerous. Indoor surveillance must be enhanced immediately.”

She directed that all institutions must work jointly to control the mosquito-borne viral infection. “The commissioners and deputy commissioners must ensure compliance with Dengue Expert Advisory Group SOPs. People must keep their homes, offices and shops clean.”

She added, The PHA must ensure cleanliness of green belts and parks. The Auqaf secretary must present report on dengue surveillance at shrines. All anti-dengue activities are being monitored.”

The chief secretary directed improvement in quality of reporting and surveillance. The performance of all institutions will be regularly reviewed, the health minister clarified. “There must be special teams to monitor the activities in Lahore and Rawalpindi.”
