‘Robber’ killed, accomplice escapes

Police claim deceased, his son, had shot dead a citizen during mugging

Sindh Police claimed to have killed a robber in an encounter on Jamali Flyover near Super Highway while his accomplice escaped during an encounter late on Monday night.

Two constables Nawab Khan and Muhammad Waseem were also injured in the exchange of fire and were under treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The deceased, Deen Muhamamd was the father of the escaped suspect and they were working as security guards, police said adding that the duo committed robberies as a 'part time job'. They were residents of the Shikarpur district.

According to Rana Ajmal, an official of the Sachal police station, the police helpline Madadgar 15 had received a distress call about a man shot dead resisting robbery near the Daewoo Bus Terminal on Super Highway. The incident happened in the remits of the Sohrab Goth police station, therefore, a squad from the precinct concerned reached the spot and shifted the body of the hitherto unidentified victim to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Meanwhile, mobile patrol of Sachal police station signaled two suspects going on a motorbike to stop near the Jamali Bridge, however they tried to escape on which police chased them. The suspect riding pillion opened fire on the police to make good their escape. Police returned fire due to which the suspects lost balance and fell down. In the ensuing exchange of fire, one of the alleged robbers was killed while the other slipped away in the darkness. Two constables, Waseem and Nawab also got injured. The body and the injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities where it transpired that the suspect eliminated in encounter had allegedly killed the man on resisting robbery near Daewoo Bus Stand.

Police are trying to trace the identity of the victim whose wallet and cell phone was snatched by the robber later killed in the encounter, Sachal police station officials said.
