ISLAMABAD:

The sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has sought details of plazas and properties regularised from CDA in the last five years.

It also sought a report of joint inquiry of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding Safa Gold Mall and directed to conduct an inquiry into the technical faults of Islamabad's sewage treatment plant.

A meeting of the sub-committee was held under the chairmanship of Riaz Fatyana on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the audit objections of the Ministry of Interior for 2017-18.

The panel also had to review the audit objections related to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). However, the interior secretary said that the audit paras of the FIA should be postponed while some DACs have already been done and all the audit paras will be presented before the committee in the next meeting.

Further, on the issue related to the sewage treatment plant, the audit officials told the committee that 11 million gallons of sewage go untreated daily. At this, the CDA chairman told the committee that the sewage treatment plant in Sector I-9 was not functional for four to five years but has now become operational.

Moreover, the owner of Safa Gold Mall, Rana Abdul Qayyum, told the committee that he bought the plot in an auction, made the payment and got the maps approved, maintaining that he did nothing wrong. He lamented that there are three malls within a kilometre while all malls were being regularised except for Safa.
