Officials say markets set up on main road of Bara Bazaar abolished, traffic restored

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation removed encroachments from historic Bara Bazaar and other busy markets in a grand operation on Monday.

During the anti-encroachment operation, the administration seized dozens of pushcarts, kiosks, and stalls and shifted them to the metropolitan corporation office. The teams also demolished illegally built walls.

The corporation’s staff was assisted by a heavy police force to deal with any unwanted situation.

The anti-encroachment operation also witnessed the use of heavy machinery.

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation carried out a grand operation against encroachments in line with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

The anti-encroachment department of the corporation used heavy machinery in the action. The officials said that the market established on the main road of Bara Bazaar was abolished and the traffic was restored.

They added that all illegally built kiosks, shades, stalls, and walls were demolished during the operation.

The anti-encroachment operation was carried out in Bara Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Trunk Bazaar, Dengi Khoi, Talwaran bazaar, and other areas.

CEO Ali Abbas said that they kept police to escort any undesirable situation while the anti-encroachment staff wore special colour uniforms. He added that the traffic on Bara Bazaar’s main road has been restored and the corporation’s staff has been deployed to prevent the resurgence of encroachments in the area.

He said that anti-enforcement drive is under way in different areas, including commercial market, Bani market, Jamia Masjid Road, Purana Qila, Urdu Bazaar, Murree Road and Ganjmandi.
