KOHAT:

A girl sustained serious burn injuries in an acid attack in Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) last night.

The complainant Rozia Sultan, 50, who is residing in a PAF residential quarter in Kohat Cantt, lodged an FIR with police, stating that she was sleeping outside veranda at her residence and her daughter Irham Gul, 20, was sleeping in her room. At night Irham rushed out screaming with an injured face as someone had thrown acid at her, leaving her badly injured.

“I gathered the neighbours who helped me shift her to the hospital. She was taken to Combined Military Hospital (CHM) after which she was sent to Divisional Hospital for further treatment.

“The girl is seriously injured. She can’t even talk at the moment and her face has been completely disfigured. She was initially treated at the local hospitals but later referred to Peshawar for further treatment,” said a police official while talking to The Express Tribune, adding that the father of the poor girl is a shopkeeper who was not home at the time of the attack.

It is worth mentioning here that the number of acid attacks has gone down considerably across the country in recent years. K-P Assembly has even introduced an Acid Attack and Crimes Bill.
