16 under construction buildings sealed

Constructions within a 200-metre radius of sensitive installations is banned

The Rawalpindi administration has sealed 16 under-construction buildings and demolished 22 others for violating the ban of constructions within a radius of 200-metre around small and major sensitive installations.

According to officials, the operation was carried out in different areas of Caltex Road, Lalazar and the Cantonment area for violating the ‘security and protection law’.

The Rawalpindi deputy commissioner has also ordered an immediate crackdown on all such residential and commercial constructions in the proximity of sensitive installations.

During the crackdown, teams of the Civil Defence Department also sealed the under-construction houses of two policemen.

CDD District Officer (DO) Talib Hussain confirmed to The Express Tribune that the ban has been imposed by the defence ministry and the local authorities were just enforcing the banned.

The official said that in the first phase, an operation against such illegal buildings will be carried out in Rawalpindi city while during the second phase, the operation will be expanded to Murree, Kotli Satyan, Kahuta, Taxila and Wah Cantt.

He said that owners of the razed buildings have also been issued instructions to remove the debris.
