Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari said that the ministry has resolved to raise in the federal cabinet the issue of the problems faced by People With Disabilities (PWDs). She added that the ministry would ensure that PWDs availed the two per cent quota in federal departments/divisions.
The minister made these remarks while chairing the second meeting of the Council on Rights of Persons with Disabilities on Sunday. She said that the ministry’s federal secretary would approach his counterparts to persuade them to take action to ensure the two per cent quota for PWDs is implemented.
It was also decided that the secretaries of other ministries would also be called to the next council meeting. The meeting also discussed making Islamabad a friendly city for PWD persons.

During the meeting, the Capital Development Authority representatives briefed the participants of CDA initiatives to make Islamabad a friendly city for PWD persons. The CDA is making access ramps at 40 different places in ICT.
The council also decided to take up the matter of fee exemption in the educational institutions of the capital territory with the education ministry and facilities for PWDs to travel alone aviation ministry.
